The Toronto Raptors is a professional basketball team that is located in Toronto. They are a member of the Atlantic Division of the Eastern Conference in the National Basketball Association (NBA). It was founded in 1995 like the Vancouver Grizzlies, after whose relocation to Tennessee in 2001, the Raptors were the only Canadian team that was left in the NBA. Initially their home ground was the SkyDome, before they were relocated to the Air Canada Centre (ACC) in 1999.
Like all the other expansion teams the first few years were a continuous struggle for the raptors. Things changed for the better after Vince Carter was acquired owing to the trade in 1998. After that the team made three consecutive playoff appearances starting in 2000. Carter proved beneficial for the team and led it to the first playoff series win that came in 2001, which led to their advancement to the Eastern Conference Semifinals. In 2004 Carter was traded and the responsibility to lead the team fell on Chris Bosh's shoulder. In 2006-2007 they appointed Bryan Colangelo as their General Manager and captured their first ever division title.

It is amongst the eight teams that are included in The Central Division of the Eastern Conference of the National Basketball Association. They play at the Air Canada Center wearing red, purple, black and silver colored uniforms. They became a member of NBA in 1994 when it was given the status of an expansion team. Isaiah Thomas and Brendan Malone were appointed as the general manager and the head coach. They were successful in winning a coin toss against the Grizzlies and got a first draft pick in the 1995 NBA draft. Both teams made trades.
The Raptors acquired Armstrong and then traded him for Victor Alexander and Carlos Rogers. They joined the 2005 NBA Draft and got two draft and two round picks. They used their drafts to acquire Charlie Villanueva, Joey Graham, Roko Ukic and Uros Slokar. The 2005-2006 season started with them posting nine consecutive games. Their losing streak of the team came to an end with a surprise win over the Miami Heat in November 2005. Later in January of the following year the Raptors posted a record of 129-103 against opponents the Knicks. Charlie Villanueva's 3 pointer hit came late in the game.

The Raptors have also been on the negative side of history, owing to the 81 points scored by the star player Kobe Bryant of the Lakers that he scored against the Raptors. In January 2006 the then general manager for the team that was Babcock, was replaced by the senior advisor named Wayne Embry on temporary basis. Later in the next month the trade that had been given much thought came into effect. As a result Jalen Rose and Cash were sent off to the New York Knicks and Antonio Davis was acquired. Presently the franchise has eventually finalized Bryan Colangelo as their general manager in a contract that has been signed and sealed.
